6. What is podcasting?

Podcasting is the automatic delivery of audio content (via RSS) to iPods and other media players, so that it can be listened to at the user's convenience. The main benefit of podcasting is that listeners can sync content to their media player and take it with them to listen whenever and wherever they want to. The "magic" of podcasting is the discovery of new content, like waking up and getting the morning paper, rather than clicking on a link and impatiently waiting for the file to download.

7. Do I need an iPod to listen to the podcasts?

No. Because podcasts are typically saved in MP3 format, they can also be listened to on most portable media devices and nearly any computer.

8. Do I have to pay to listen to the podcasts?

No. ChinesePod podcasts are free. We only charge for the related premium services which include transcripts of the core conversation and the rollover annontation effect as well as a Personal Learning Center to manage the vocabulary you want to review. Premium services are free for the first week, so try them out for youself.

9. How can I add ChinesePod to my iTunes?

With the release of iTunes 4.9, ChinesePod podcasts can be automatically downloaded into your iTunes. Just left-click on the iTunes button on the right of this website and your iTunes will automatically open up and ask you to confirm your subscription.

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

10. When I export my Word Bank words to a CSV file, how do I read the file?

Encoding issues tend to be a bit of a pain. When you export the file it is saved as a UTF-8 encoded text file. There are many ways to view this information, but probably the quickest is to (1) open the file in a web browser, then (2) go to "View" - "Encoding" (or "Character Encoding" if you are using Firefox) and select UTF-8. We are not sure what you can do with this information, but it is YOUR information so we figured we would provide the option of exporting it out of ChinesePod.

11. When I look at the Dialogue Transcripts I don't see anything.
